How to get involved
- Firstly, you will have to purchase or lease a racehorse. This can be done in two ways:
1. PURCHASE
A horse can be purchased from an Auction Sales which are held throughout the year. Or you can purchase an already established, raced horse. The latter being more costly.
2. LEASE
There are sometimes leases available. The previous owner (usually the breeder) retains ownership, with the lessee leasing the racing career of the horse. When the lease period is up, the horse will return to its previous owner. - Secondly, you will have to become a registered owner with the Jockey Club of South Africa. If you are unsure as to which will suit your needs, we will gladly advise you.
- Next an Authority to Act registration, which entitles the trainer to act on your behalf, will have to be registered with the Jockey Club.
- The costs are as follows:
INDIVIDUAL OWNERSHIP REGISTRATION: R1395-00
PARTNERSHIP REGISTRATION: R1835-00
SYNDICATE REGISTRATION: R3405-00
AUTHORITY TO ACT REGISTRATION: R330-00 (Compulsory)
